🚲 Irvine’s New 1,200-Foot Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge Is Now Open
Irvine just completed one of its newest pieces of transportation infrastructure. The Jeffrey Open Space Trail (JOST) Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge officially opened August 11, 2026, creating a dedicated connection over the I-5 Freeway for pedestrians and cyclists.
The City describes it as the largest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Irvine, stretching nearly 1,200 feet—more than three football fields long.
✨Project Highlights:
• Nearly 1,200 feet long and 15 feet wide
• Crosses the I-5 Freeway, Walnut Avenue & Jeffrey Road Park & Ride
• Connects the Jeffrey Open Space Trail and Cypress Village Trail
• Helps complete approximately 5 miles of connected trail through Irvine
• Approximately $14.5M in state funding + $5.06M from Caltrans helped support the project
• Includes 40 custom light poles, landscaping and decorative improvements
The Bottom Line:
This isn't just a new bridge—it fills an important gap in Irvine's trail network, giving residents another way to travel between neighborhoods, parks and trails without having to cross the I-5 through major street intersections.
It's another example of Irvine continuing to invest in the parks, trails and infrastructure that connect its communities.
